Welcome to Gateway Ski Club's official site

Gateway Ski Club was founded in the 1987 by individuals in the St Louis area that shared an interest in Nordic pursuits. Since that time the group has grown to over 300 members nationwide. The club typically takes two or three winter trips annually. Usually two trips in North America and one in Europe. Gateway Ski Club is made up of varying types of winter sports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Additionally we offer group travel adventures for spring and summer as well. There are no group membership fees at this time so; Come join the fun.

     a     Club News   a

Greetings again!

As a result of the economic realities that we are all aware of, there are a few changes in Gateway’s trip schedules. As I am sure you know, the air fares are just skyrocketing. We had intended to put together a trip for December again this year as well as the regular European and Spring trips. However, the air fares we were getting anywhere outside of Denver were in excess of $700.00. In addition to that, we were getting ground packaging that were priced reflecting mid-season conditions. For example, Air to Telluride was over $700.00 and the ground package was close to $850.00. And, I was advised that nearly two thirds of the mountain would not be open. The air fare into Bend, Oregon for Mt. Bachelor was in excess of $800.00 and the ground coming in at over $800.00. So, after looking at our circumstances, we are going to change our philosophy a bit to reflect not only the rising cost of air, but also to reflect the diversity of our membership.

We are going to offer the European Trip in January to Sestriere, Italy (home of the 2006 Turin Olympics) and extension to Monte Carlo as well as a spring ski trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in March as our ski trips. In addition to that, we plan on some non-ski functions. For our non-skiers, we will offer a long weekend trip in late April or early May of next year to either the New Orleans Jazz Festival or the French Quarter Fest. Both are great visits and inexpensive. We are also going to start a summer trip. At this point, we are planning a sail/dive vacation in the Caribbean for next summer. In the future, that may be altered to an Alaska or Caribbean cruise or just an island “all inclusive” type of vacation. That will accommodate our members who cannot get away for a ski trip and also our members who do not ski.

As you might also suspect, our membership reflects a diversity of financial conditions. Our trips have always been designed to give the most “bang for the buck” for a group. If you are going to need “high end” accommodations or special considerations, perhaps these are not trips for you. We always try to provide the best accommodations for our participants.

Please keep in mind that our pricing is based on a “group” of specific numbers. In many cases, unless we reach that number, the advertised cost would increase due to the fact that you no longer have sufficient numbers to constitute group pricing. As a result, unless we have a large enough group to be able to sustain that price, we will either have to charge additional fees to cover the increased costs or cancel the trip and refund your complete deposits. Please keep in mind that the pricing for hotel rooms are “per person with double occupancy”! We will try to find you a roommate but if that is not possible, you may well end up with a single room supplement.

Finally, even if you cannot participate in one of the trips, I encourage you to attend the Happy Hours, parties and other group activities in the future. You are more than welcome to come and bring someone with you who may be interested in skiing with us. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at our club events and on the ski slopes.

Hope to see you all soon
