This year, we are going to return to one of the larger ski resorts in
the world. In my opinion, the French Alps offer the best skiing in the
world and La Plagne is one of the largest ski areas in France. It
recently combined with the nearby ski area of Les Arcs and now offers a
complex of 6 high alpine resorts and 20 villages. You can access 116
lifts that serve nearly 300 miles of ski runs along with three peaks
over 9,000 feet high and vertical descents of over 6,000 feet. It means
ski in a big way from the top of the glacier to the forest nearly 6,000
feet below! Within an hour you will be able to ski Val D’Isere or
Meribel/Courchevel. Plenty of terrain to attack this year, but something
for everyone. Steep black runs to easy beginner slopes.
When you arrive in the La
Plagne, you are going to be in the heart of one of the world’s great ski
areas. It is as scenic and serene as skiing can possibly be. Right
alongside the modern lifts and pistes, you will find ancient stone
shepherd huts. You can ski to any of the villages that
make up the ski resort. For those of you who were disappointed last year
with the demise of the “Taxi Bob” in Cortina, you will be please to know
that it is alive and well in La Plagne!
We will fly from St. Louis
to Geneva, Switzerland and then will bus to La Plagne. That trip should
take about two hours. After our week in La Plagne, you will take the
high speed TGV train to Paris to spend four nights in the City of Light.
You will then return home from Paris.
While in La Plagne, we will be staying at the very modern Hotel Terra
Nova which is located in Plagne Centre, the heart of the six villages
which make up the ski area.. It is a ski in/out hotel and puts you
quickly on the ski slopes. While there, you will have the usual skier’s
buffet breakfast, and first class evening meals daily.
This year, you
will have TWO optional extensions. First, a group will be leaving La
Plagne on Thursday, January 27th, 2010 and travel to
Chateau D’Oex, Switzerland which is located about 10 miles from Gstaad.
There is an international hot air balloon festival and those folks are
going to go over to stay two nights in that area. On Friday, you could
spend the day skiing at Gstaad . But the big part of that adventure is
that you will be a participant in the “glow” on Friday evening. They
then plan on taking the train direct from Chateau D’Oex to Paris to join
up with those who do not choose to go. Second, for those who choose to
stay in La Plagne, you will travel the few miles to Bourg St. Maurice
on Saturday, January 29, 2010 and then take the TGV into Paris. For
information on the Balloon trip, please call. The charges will be in
addition to the charges for the trip. In Paris, our hotel will be the
Holiday Inn Montparnasse, located very close to the Eiffel Tower and
Champs Elysees. There you will receive breakfast daily during your
stay. You will return home on Wednesday, February 2nd.
Your cost for the base trip to La Plagne is $1,938.00 (St. Louis, Chicago and Kansas City)
You will receive: ∙ Round Trip air from St. Louis to Venice, Italy on Delta
Airlines; ∙ 7 nights with buffet breakfast and 4 course dinner daily in
Cortina ∙ airport departure taxes and transfers. ∙ Your cost for the extension package will be $400.00. You will receive:
4 nights in Paris at the Holiday Inn Montparnasse with breakfast ∙ all transfers and hotel taxes.
This trip is limited to 45 persons!!!
